If your Self-Employed income is over £1,000 then this is a trigger for you to prepare and submit a Self-Assessment Tax Return to declare the income. If the Self-Employed income is in addition to other income, then all of the income for the relevant year must be included on the return.
Self-employed individuals earn income from their own businesses or from freelance work. They are responsible for paying their own income taxes and National Insurance contributions.
Self-employed tax returns are due to be filed by 31 January following the end of the tax year. The tax year runs from 6 April one year to 5 April the following year.
