Buy To Let Tax affects millions of private residential landlords in the UK, if your income from rented out property exceeds £2,500, then HMRC insist that you complete a self assessment tax return each year. If the property is owned in joint names then both you and your partner are required to complete a tax return.

Property income may be from a buy to let property that you have purchased as an investment, it may be from a holiday let that is managed for you, or you may be renting out your second home whilst you wait for the right time to sell it.

HMRC have set up a special task force to pursue private residential landlords as they suspect that millions of pounds of buy to let tax is being evaded each year as landlords do not declare their property income.
